10 Years of Growcoon Evolution Culminates at GreenTech 2025

Visitors to the Klasmann-Deilmann booth at this year’s GreenTech (10–12 June) are in for a treat. Here, partners Maan and Klasmann-Deilmann will unveil several exciting innovations. Most striking: the launch of the Growcoon Dispenser Advanced Series. But the term “advanced” also perfectly captures the remarkable evolution of the Growcoon itself. What began as a groundbreaking idea is now presented as a comprehensive cultivation concept. Here’s what to expect:

Advanced Concepts

Ten years ago, André Jansen, founder of Maan Group, came up with a revolutionary idea: “Why not develop a growing net that’s fully biodegradable – one that supports the young plant when needed and degrades once its job is done?” The rest, as they say, is history. This principle still forms the foundation of Growcoon. But a decade of experience across a wide range of crops has brought deeper insights into critical topics such as degradation, usability, and automation – turning a product into a full-fledged cultivation solution.

Automation is the answer

Maan recently announced the launch of Maan Horti Automation, a new division established to meet the growing need for automation in horticulture. This year’s GreenTech marks the next step: Maan Horti Automation is introducing the Growcoon Dispenser Advanced Series – both a manual and a fully automatic dispenser, developed for growers who won’t compromise. The capacity of the Automatic Growcoon Dispenser Advanced is especially impressive, with a throughput of over 100 million units per year. Both models will be demonstrated at GreenTech.

With this launch, the creators respond to the increasing demand for precision, control, sustainability, and automation – topics that are rightfully gaining more attention. Labour is becoming scarcer, while demand for healthy, green products continues to grow. The solution? Integrated systems that boost efficiency and capacity.

What’s next?

The Growcoon itself is evolving in the same direction. If the developers have learned one thing over the past years, it’s this: one size definitely does not fit all. While biodegradation might seem like a simple, natural process on paper it depends on many variables. And no two crops are the same. Although the two base formulations have long served as a reliable foundation, the expansion into more segments and global regions calls for a broader range.

“We want the Growcoon to degrade where and when the grower needs it to. Whether the plant ends up in the soil, on the compost heap, or in a living room. Maximum support when it’s needed, breakdown when it’s possible. That’s what we aim for,” says Luuk Groenewoud, Director of Maan Biobased Products.

That’s why the Growcoon developers are introducing two additional degradation formulas this summer. More precision. More control. In the form of a high-performing propagation plug...
